Overview
Welcome to the KCFC Football Academy powered by Blu-Hawk Sports Performance! Elevate your game with our position-specific training program, focusing on the mental and physical development of football athletes. The KCFC Football Academy will meet for two days a week and our staff of experienced coaches will work position specific content, as well as speed and agility work. Cost for the KCFC Football Academy is $150 per month. Sessions will be held at Heritage Park Football Complex or AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk (16201 Shawnee Dr, Overland Park, KS 66223), depending on the weather. These sessions are boys and girls in 4th-8th grade.
"Try It" sessions will be available on March 2nd and 4th, with monthly sessions beginning on March 9th. Registration for these sessions will begin in January.
Each position is tailored with targeted techniques to enhance skills and elevate performance:
- QB Training: Improve throwing mechanics, footwork, hand-offs, running motion, and arm strength.
- RB Training: Enhance footwork, vision, catching, blocking skills, and ball protection. Learn tackling, running strategies, and balance.
- DB/LB Training: Elevate coverage skills, including man and zone coverage, footwork, route recognition, and defensive strategies.
- OL/DL Training: Perfect fundamentals for offensive and defensive linemen, emphasizing blocking stance, dominating blocks, and hand and foot techniques.
- WR Training: Sharpen route running, pass-catching skills, and coverage recognition for wide receivers
We focus our training two days a week on linear speed development (running mechanics, acceleration, deceleration and max velocity techniques) and two days a week on lateral speed development (agility, change of direction, reaction time). All training sessions will also include plyometric and will be led by one of our Sports Performance coaches on staff.

Meet our Academy Staff
Johnny Beck
Johnny is Director of Sports Performance at AdventHealth Sports Park at BluHawk. He attended the University of Kansas on a football scholarship and started 45 career games, finishing his playing career in 2004. Johnny earned 4 straight Academic All-Big XII honors and was a two-time All-Big XII kicker, earning a selection to the Freshman All-American Team in 2001. During the 2005 season, he served as an intern under the Director of Football Operations and as a Special Teams coaching assistant. Johnny graduated from KU, in 2006,with a B.S., in Sports Management and has been training athletes for the past 20 years.
DJ Lynn
DJ Lynn is the Sports Performance Programming Director at Bluhawk, with a strong background in collegiate football and athlete development. He brings years of experience working with high-level athletes, specializing in strength and conditioning, speed development, and performance optimization.
Before transitioning fully into sports performance, Lynn spent multiple seasons coaching collegiate football. He served six years with the Red Ravens, coaching twenty-six All-Conference athletes and helping sixty-four offensive players earn Division I scholarships. In 2020, he stepped into the role of Offensive Coordinator, further expanding his leadership and player development experience.
Prior to Coffeyville, Lynn coached running backs at Washburn University, where the program finished fourth in the MIAA in rushing during both the 2016 and 2017 seasons. During that time, he coached three All-Conference running backs and later transitioned to an offensive line assistant role in 2018.
Lynn’s playing career began at Coffeyville Community College, where he started 16 games at center over two seasons. He was a two-time Academic All-Conference selection and earned Second Team All-Conference honors while helping lead the program to the playoffs in both years. DJ then transferred to Washburn University where he started nineteen games in 2014 and 2015, earning All-Conference in 2015.
Over the past two years, Lynn has worked as a Sports Performance Coach at All In Sports and Bluhawk Sports Performance, training athletes across multiple sports and age groups. His coaching philosophy emphasizes movement quality, strength, speed, and accountability, with a goal of helping athletes maximize their potential and stay healthy year-round.
Mikendric Harper
Mikendric Harper is the founder of Harper Island Training, LLC, a USWA-certified trainer, and a sports performance coach at AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk. A standout at Hart County High School in Georgia, he played at Butler County Community College and the University of Kansas, competing in the 2008 Orange Bowl and Insight Bowl. His professional career includes multiple 1st Team honors, four championships, and induction into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
Mikendric is dedicated to helping athletes reach their full potential, having trained NFL talents such as Breece Hall. His motto, “You can have results or excuses, but not both,” reflects his commitment to excellence on and off the field.
Henry McGrew
Henry was a three-year starting Linebacker and Quarterback for the state championship team in 2013, earning All-State honors for Blue Valley High School. He continued his football career at the University of Illinois from 2014–2017, playing linebacker, defensive end, and tight end. He also was a 3 year letterman. Since 2018, he has worked as a sports performance coach and defensive line skills coach.
Dylan Downing
Dylan attended Bishop Miege High School, where he was a four-time state champion and earned multiple individual accolades. He went on to commit to play football at the University of Kansas, contributing on all four special teams throughout his career while also earning reps at linebacker. After completing his playing career, Dylan transitioned into coaching at AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk, where he has been coaching for about a year.
