General Info & Registration
REGISTRATION FOR THE 2025 CHEERLEADING SEASON WILL BE OPEN MARCH 1-JUNE 1.
Cheerleading General Information
The Cheerleading Program of KCFC is offered to youth in kindergarten through 8th grade. Squads are formed by high school area and cheer for fall football teams. Games are played at Heritage Park Football Complex, school district and private facilities in Johnson County (KS) school districts and fields at other locations (Kearney, Liberty, Liberty North, Platte County, Raymore-Peculiar, Smithville and Savannah), as available. Some squads also cheer for winter basketball teams in GABL or other basketball leagues. KCFC is a rec program, but squads are given the opportunity to participate in the annual Cheer and Dance Showcase and Competition.
On-line registration will be available March 1 through June 1. Anyone registering after June 1 will be accepted only based on availability on squads after the deadline - so don't delay in registering so that you can ensure your place on a squad! Earlier registration also allows you to be involved in fundraising opportunities to help offset uniform and other additional costs. New in 2026 - registration fee must be paid at the time of registration. If planning to apply for a scholarship, please apply for the scholarship first so that you can receive a coupon code to reduce the amount you pay when completing the registration.
Junior Cheerleading Program is available to youth who will be in Kindergarten through 3rd grade in the coming school year.
The "Senior" Cheerleading Program is available to 4th through 8th graders. Many school districts only go through 6th grade -- Blue Valley, Liberty and Liberty North go through 7th grade and Shawnee Mission goes through 8th grade.
New or used uniforms must be purchased by the parent/guardian. Cost for uniforms vary, depending on the high school area. Information on uniforms is available through your coach or area director. The basic uniform includes skirt, briefs and top. There is an additional cost for accessories.
Fundraising opportunities are determined by each high school area. Some individual squads also do fundraising for specific activities.
The success of this program depends on quality adult leadership and participation. The support and involvement of parents whose children take part in the program is critical to its success. Coaches, assistant coaches and squad assistants are always needed. If you can help your squad, please contact your cheerleading area director.
LATE REGISTRATIONS/WAITLIST INFORMATION
The waiting list for Cheerleading registrations will open at 11:59pm on June 1.
Cheerleaders registering on the waitlist after June 1 will only be moved off if the area/squad they are requesting can still add them. Uniforms are ordered soon after the deadline to ensure delivery in time for the start of the fall flag and tackle season.

Where do the events take place?
Tackle and flag games are primarily played at Heritage Football Park located at 16240 Pflumm, just south of 159th on Pflumm, in Olathe. Flag games may also be held at Heritage Park Soccer, school or private facilities in northern Johnson County. Tackle games are also played at fields hosted by our teams outside of Johnson County (Kearney, Liberty, Liberty North, Platte County, Raymore-Peculiar, Smithville and Savannah). Some squads also cheer for basketball. Most basketball games are played at public schools throughout Johnson County. Most KCFC sponsored cheer camps, clinics and competitions are held in Johnson County.
How much time is required?
Most areas and squads hold mandatory parent meetings. All cheerleaders must attend area uniform fitting to purchase a uniform. Practice days and times vary by squad. Practices may not begin prior to coaches attending the KCFC Coaching Seminar, the first being held in late April/early May. Practice becomes mandatory August 1st. Flag football games may begin in mid August through mid to late October; tackle games are scheduled the Saturday of Labor Day weekend through the end of October. Basketball games usually start in January and through the end of February. In addition, most squads participate in the mid-November Cheer and Dance Showcase and Competition.
What is the average cost?
After the registration fee, uniform/accessories/dues generally cost between $220-$300 and vary by area. Fundraising is available to help cover the cost of uniforms and accessories. Most areas do offer some used uniforms at reduced prices. Practice facility fees, if any, are divided evenly between the squad. Some squads choose to go to optional camps, clinics or competitions and costs vary. Some areas have squad or area dues that help pay for various squad or area expenses (e.g., facilities, bows, area apparel/practice uniforms, etc.).
Who are the coaches?
Coaches are all volunteers. All coaches are required to complete a volunteer application and submit to a criminal background check. If interested in coaching, please complete an application during your child's registration and or contact your area director for more information.
