Overview

Flag and tackle programs are offered during the year with KCFC. Flag programs are offered in the spring and fall, with either individual or team registrations. If you do not have a team, you can sign up as an individual and KCFC will do their best to place your child on a team either in his or her high school area or as close as possible. Coaches who already have a team can have each child register individually and list them as their coach, and the coach will complete a volunteer application, which includes a place to list players for the roster. For the flag program, KCFC tries to keep teams by grade, but will, if numbers require it, form combined grades, such as K and 1, 2nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th, 5th and 6th, and 7th and 8th, and will not place children on teams with 2 grades apart, such as a 3rd grader on a 5th grade team. The tackle program currently starts at 3rd grade and now goes through 7th grade, as the Shawnee Mission district started playing school ball in 8th grade in 2024, with teams formed by high school areas. Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission, Kearney, Liberty and Staley teams go through 7th grade, while teams from Paola, Louisburg, Spring Hill, Gardner, Desoto/Mill Valley, Olathe, Platte County, Savannah, Smithville and St Joseph play through 6th grade as their schools begin school ball in 7th grade. KCFC owns helmets and shoulder pads and rents them to participants who do not wish to purchase their own equipment, and if players own their equipment, KCFC requires that it be checked by the Equipment Manager or designee prior to the start of the season to ensure safety. KCFC reconditions helmets every three years and requires that owned equipment be reconditioned as required by the manufacturer as well. In 2024, KCFC had 94 tackle teams participate and few teams played the same team more than once, with games played at Heritage Park Football Complex as well as Liberty, Liberty North, Platte County, Smithville and Savannah. Camps throughout the year, including spring break, winter break and summer, allow football players to work on their skills throughout the year.
